Improving access to baby carrying as a
cultural solution to postpartum health
Baby carrying saved my life. I was alone in a different country with
no support and a 5-year-old to care for. I had to take my older
child to the park, library, and other places while also running
errands and managing the house with a newborn. Baby carrying
allowed me to keep going with my daily life, while also staying
close to my baby and creating a strong bond. It gave me the
freedom to be present for both of my children and get things
done, even when it felt overwhelming.
The Nurturely team was
awarded first place in a
national research challenge!
The National Institutes of Health launched the Connecting the Community for Maternal
Health Challenge under the IMPROVE Initiative. Out of almost 100 national research teams,
Nurturely won first place for our culturally-rooted infant carrying intervention study.
In community-based research, challenges faced by the community inform the
research questions. At Nurturely, we prioritize examining and uplifting
cultural solutions, like baby carrying, as preventative
solutions to perinatal health disparities.
We translate our research findings into
community-based education...
